A captivating orchestration of forms, textures and brawny materiality: Standard components, raw materials and living plants were assembled to create a unified whole on top of a mountain ridge framing the oak tree dotted Fossil Ridge Park hillside and San Fernando Valley floor beyond. This home with a brise-soleil facade is two stories with a walk-out basement as it opens to a private rear yard patio. Energy efficiency was addressed with two large garden roofs over interior spaces offering a thermal barrier that is visually pleasing, attracting hummingbirds and bees throughout the year.
